Community Involvement: A Cornerstone of “ActioNetization”

Written by Greg S.

On Wednesday, March 4, 2015, ActioNet, Inc. participated as mentors at the In Her Shoes: Empowering Future Leaders in Transportation event held at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in Washington, DC, and sponsored by the DOT’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. The event was held in commemoration of Women’s History Month and President Obama’s “Ladders of Opportunity” initiative and gave ActioNet mentors, Greg Storch and Anthony Adoremos, the opportunity to share career advice, job opportunities, and mentorship guidance with young women from high schools and colleges located in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.  Attendees were treated to a keynote speech delivered by actress, Phylicia Rashād, who is known for her role as Clair Huxtable on the long-running NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show”. Prior to the mentoring sessions, students participated in two panel discussions on “Professional Etiquette: Social media, professional presentation, cell phone use, resumes and interview tips” and “Finding Your Career Path: Professional relationships, networking, internships, careers and constructive feedback”.  Since the focus of the event was mentoring young women in our community, it was very appropriate that ActioNet, Inc. was invited to participate not only as a Woman-Owned business, but because it was held at the birthplace of our company, the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Overall this event was a huge success and was another opportunity to continue our efforts of ActioNetization through community involvement.
