I joined ActioNet in December 2015 at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, just a couple of months after completing my active duty service in the United States Navy. After being an Information Systems Technician for over seven years, I decided that I wanted to continue to pursue my IT career in the civilian sector. I was very fortunate to meet the ActioNet Program Manager and Supervisor for JBSA during a Veteran’s career fair. Since then, joining the ActioNet team has certainly presented new opportunities for me to expand my IT skills in challenging new ways.
Here in JBSA Lackland, myself and other ActioNeters support the 92nd Cyber Operation Squadron by maintaining and configuring network systems to ensure data integrity. On my first day, I was a bit nervous since this would be my first position working as a civilian. I quickly learned that a few of my fellow ActioNeters were also military veterans. They were very welcoming and helpful when it came to training me. Working alongside knowledgeable and motivating technicians, it really made coming to work an enjoyable experience. Every day I have to opportunity to get technical expertise and learn something new about the environment we maintain.
Joining the ActioNet team has definitely set me off on the right direction after I separated from active duty and has prepared me in becoming a more advanced network support technician. ActioNet has given me the opportunity to become a Microsoft Certified Professional and an Advanced Security Practitioner. I feel that my opportunities here at ActioNet have been rewarding and motivated me to become a certified professional. Working for ActioNet has given me the opportunity to continue to support our government and military personnel on a more prestige level.
