Fairfax, VA

ActioNet, Inc. announced today that its Software Development Division has been evaluated as fully compliant with Level 3 of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model® (CMM®). The Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) was conducted by a four person team from ProcessWorks, Inc. led by Dr. Eugene McGuire, an SEIM Lead Evaluator and President of ProcessWorks. Spanning a period of three days, the SCE examined ActioNet’s capabilities in thirteen Key Process Areas prescribed by the SEI Software CMM®, and ActioNet was found to meet the required capabilities for a Level 3 maturity rating. This achievement is even more remarkable in that, although many processes were already in place, ActioNet’s formal efforts to achieve CMM® Level 3 were initiated less than a year ago.

ActioNet’s Vice President, Jeffrey D. Abish, attributes this great achievement to the company’s strong commitment to process improvement and quality. Abish said, “We continue to set the bar higher and higher for our organization in order to provide top notch customer service. The quality of our outstanding team and our focus on exceeding customer expectations has helped us stand out in the crowd.”

Dr. McGuire said, “The software development philosophy and practices of ActioNet completely embody the spirit of CMM® Level 3. This organization seamlessly demonstrates management commitment, employee empowerment, exceptional quality, and customer satisfaction. They have completely satisfied the requirements of CMM® Level 3.”

SEI CMM® Evaluation Criteria

Developed by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie-Mellon University, the Software Capability Maturity Model® requires a process-based approach to the development of software, encompassing both the engineering and management aspects. It has become the de-facto international standard for measuring the capability of an organization to effectively develop software. SEI’s Vision is: “The right software, delivered defect free, on time and on cost, every time.”There are five CMM® levels, ranging from an ad hoc initial capability (Level 1) to an optimizing process with continual improvement (Level 5). CMM® Level 3 is called the “Defined” level and is characterized by the use of an organization-wide, standard process for the development and maintenance of software, including integrated management and engineering. This rating is granted only after a rigorous third-party audit of a company’s software development and management practices by an audit team led by an SEI-accredited Lead Evaluator.
