October 28, 2004
Fairfax, VA

ActioNet Inc. is a Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM®) Level 3 certified, award-winning 8(a), Woman-Owned, Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), providing industry-leading project management, process improvement, software development, training, integrated network, and IT security support.

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Fairfax, VA, ActioNet was ranked #465 on the 2004 Inc. 500’s List of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies with four/five year average annual sales growth of 79.2%. ActioNet, Inc. achieved the listing on its first attempt. The Inc. 500 Special Issue will appear on newsstands October 26 and will be on display until December 21, 2004 and beginning November 1, the full Inc. 500 list will be available online at www.inc.com. The Inc. 500 ranks privately held companies according to averaged year-over-year sales growth over the past four years. With approximately 75% of all new job creation in the U.S. coming from small businesses, the Inc. 500 is a prescient indicator of the companies and industries that are driving the economy forward. Further demonstrating the resilience of this year’s Inc. 500 crop is the fact that 102 of this year’s honorees started in 1999—meaning that they weathered the start-up costs of the overcapitalized boom and thrived during the impending bust that was one of the toughest periods for young companies in recent memory. “The best thing you can say about this year’s crop of Inc. 500 entrepreneurs is that they didn’t buy into the hype,” said Inc. editor-in-chief John Koten. “When people were practically giving away funding in the late 1990s, these companies didn’t overextend, and when everyone hit the panic button a few years later, they stayed calm and seized opportunity.”

Ashley W. Chen, ActioNet’s President & CEO, has seized every opportunity to make her dreams come true. Noting her accomplishments, Ms. Chen was recently recognized as the Small Business Administration (SBA) Washington Metropolitan Region’s 2004 Minority Small Business Person of the Year. “Ashley Chen is to ActioNet, what adrenaline is to entrepreneurial spirit,” states Joseph Loddo, District Director of SBA’s Washington Metropolitan Area District Office. “The American small business community is a source of innovation and job creation, and it represents the economic future of our country. Ms. Chen has demonstrated that vision and action working together simultaneously are the ingredients that turn dreams into reality and innovation into jobs.” Ashley W. Chen founded ActioNet in 1998 with a “dream to build something great.” She was inspired by an enlightening piece written by a traditional Japanese philosopher that stated, “…action without vision is a nightmare, vision without action is only a daydream.” Through hard work and persistence, Ms. Chen turned her vision into “action” and her dreams into reality. Ms. Chen was also a recipient of the 2004 Asian Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Asian Enterprise Magazine.

In addition to these awards, ActioNet was also just recently ranked 36th on the Washington Technology Fast 50; ranked 18th on Deloitte’s Fast 50-Virginia, and 310th on Deloitte’s Fast 500-North America.

ActioNet is definitely a company to watch, with dreams, hard work and action they will continue to be successful.
